What do you wonder about? Create your own Inquiry!
These topics are ones that students have explored in past years. You can and should add to this list if possible. A good Inquiry project is driven by the question not whatever facts you happen to come across as you research. Think of yourself as an Investigator of History. You must solve the case! Temples of Ancient Greece & Rome How were the ancient temples built? What were their main architectural features? What was their purpose in society? How were the temples of the Greeks & Romans similar and different? Amazing Aqueducts The Romans were known for building amazing structures. Their system of aqueducts and roads still exist today and were one of the main things that helped their empire to spread. Research about this ancient plumbing system and teach us how it worked! The Arts Sculpture, painting, jewlery, vases. What types of artistry did the Ancients leave behind and what does it tell us about how they lived? What was it made from? How do we know? Research about all things art in the Ancient lands of Greece or Rome or both! Democracy vs. Emperors! How did the Ancient Greeks and Romans govern themselves? There isn't one answer. They had many kinds of government over time. From democracy to crazy kings and emperors! Research more about this. Daily Life in Ancient Greece What was it like to live in Ancient times? What foods would I have eaten? How would I have spend my days? Would it matter how much money I had? If I was a girl or a boy? Where would I have lived? Gone to school? Played with? Wars and Weapons of the Greeks What was ancient war like for the Greeks? Who fought in these wars? What materials were available and how did that effect what weapons they could make? How did the geography of the Mediterranean region effect wars? What big wars were fought? Who were the main enemies of the Greeks? Greece vs. Egypt What similarities can I find between Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt (which you studied in 4th grade) How do their social structure, government, architecture, daily life, and religion compare? Can I find any evidence that the Ancient Egyptians impacted the Greeks in any way? Science and Medicine What kind of medicine did they have in Ancient Days? What would happen if you got sick? Did they understand what we understand today? Research about science and medicine in Ancient Greece and Rome (or both) and teach us all about it. Travel and Trade Cultures impact each other in many ways. Who did the Greeks and Romans trade with? how did the geography of the land impact that? What did explorers find when they traveled to far away lands? Adventure? New food? Research to find out! The Olympics and Sports When did the Olympics start? Who could compete and what games did they play? Were there prizes? How do these compare to today? Did they have sports other than the Olympics in Ancient Greece? Did the Romans continue the Olympic tradition? What makes a good inquiry question? A Good Question:
You may present your information in what ever way you would like but be aware we may not have a ton of time with the lap tops. We will have access to the mini iPads.

Learning Standard Content: evidence of climate change over geological time and recent impacts of humans. Curricular Competency: Use scientific understandings to identify relationships and draw conclusions. _ Project Criteria: You will create an informational pamphlet on Climate Change. You will receive one 8 1/2x14 sheet. Task: Many people still believe that our Climate is not being effected by our use of fossil fuels and rapid expansion of our civilization. Your job is to create a pamphlet that outlines: 1) how we are effecting the climate 2)how the climate has changed over time 3)the evidence of climate change 4)how we can start to make a difference and impact the climate less. This pamphlet needs to contain information to help the general population understand the serious nature of Climate Change and why steps need to be taken to slow it down. You may use the information you have already gathered about Climate Change as well as, do more research. Think about the unit we did on geological timescale and how the earth has changed over time. Some useful links are listed below (just click on them): http://climate.nasa.gov http://climatekids.nasa.gov http://www.davidsuzuki.org/issues/climate-change/science/impacts/?gclid=CjwKEAjw0pa5BRCLmoKIx_HTh1wSJABk5F_4xVIX9zkURnDUK09NVe9CtXX-ffCsGyxN34e2j46muRoCNobw_wcB http://www.unep.org/climatechange/ Specific content you need to include: 1. Thorough explanation of the 4 questions listed above 2. 1-2 appropriate images to accompany each question (50% or more, of images should be hand drawn) 3. Eye catching title page to pamphlet, interesting title, interesting images (How will you get people to pick up and read your pamphlet? 4. Each page of pamphlet is done in good copy form (either typed or neatly printed and fine lined, neat colouring, good effort) 5. Works cited page included on a separate sheet, please do not just write down the website name, review the works cited page guidelines. This project is meant to be in place of having a quiz on climate change and therefore has a quick turnaround. You will have 2 in class periods to work on it and a weekend. Any work blocks can also be used to complete this assignment. The due date is Thursday May 12th, keeping in mind we are starting Chemistry on May 10th in class. Assignment Marking Rubric: Below is the downloadable version of the marking rubric, you can print it off at home: ![]()
![]() Climate Change: a change in global or regional climate patterns, in particular a change apparent from the mid to late 20th century onwards and attributed largely to the increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide produced by the use of fossil fuels. Questions to consider:In the previous unit we learned about how the earth has changed over time and how scientists have broken Geologic Time into specific groups of time. Climate change is a continuation of this theme in that it is another way in which our earth is changing. Some questions we will consider: What is climate change? Is there evidence of climate change? What are the factors effecting climate change? Can we help slow down Climate Change? What are some things everyone can do to make a difference? Lesson One:Watch the video linked here called "Climate Change Basics" On a sheet of paper write both the questions and answers to the following questions: 1. Describe the greenhouse effect. 2. What are the signs of climate change? (List all 6) 3. Why is climate change so concerning? (Effects? 8 are listed) 4. What are some actions we can take to reduce Climate Change? 5. What are some actions you can take right now to reduce energy use? Lesson Two: |
